How to boost your happy hormones đ„°
Feeling low today? Here are some quick-fixes to cheer you up!
Weâve all been there. Those days when we canât seem to bring ourselves out of bed. Luckily, there are a lot of ways to âhackâ those happy hormones and make ourselves feel better!
Dopamine
Also known as the feel-good hormone, this one is all about pleasure and reward. Do something simple and celebrate it.
đ Start your day off right by making a list of small, achievable things to do. Keep it minimal. Cross this list off, one thing at a time, and celebrate the small wins!
đ„Your diet can help elevate your mood too. Be sure to eat enough protein in the day and fit in a simple, fun workout like a dance class to get you on your toes!
Serotonin
The mood regulator. When we feel emotional, we are experiencing a flurry of negative or anxious thoughts and feelings. Itâs important to get away and drown out the noise for a bit with a meditative exercise. đ§ This can be in the form of an audio recording, a video, or even a Yoga class! Try to journal a gratitude list, taking your time to think of all the things you are grateful for. It helps reset the negative âeverything is doomedâ feeling, and gets you back in the driving seat in a positive mindset. Listen to calm music - no, donât click on that sad song just because you feel melancholic! - listen to a happy song, and dance along to it! âïž If you feel like doing nothing, just step outside and take in the ample sunlight and fresh air. Studies show that exposure to sunlight increases the bodyâs natural production of endorphins and serotonin! In addition, be sure to get seven to eight hours of sleep at night. Not getting enough sleep at night can cause hormone imbalance, so try to make your sleeping space cosy and comfortable, and get a good nightâs sleep!
Oxytocin
đ€© The love hormone. Think of all the beautiful relationships in your life. Play with your pet, hold your partnerâs hand, lay your head in your Mamaâs lap, give a stranger a compliment or hold the door open for somebody at the mall. Acts of kindness are proven to make us happier, and also benefit those around us. Win, win!
Endorphins
đ Natureâs pain-relief. Call your best friend and laugh on end for hours. Laughter truly is the best medicine! Get yourself some chocolate, or invest in some essential oils to spray on your pillow or put in your bath for some relaxing downtime. Try this list and tell us what works best for you!
